Take Two Knees

A virtual concert of works written by Black Female composers: Aug 9, 2020

I am so beyond excited to announce to you that I will be presenting a virtual concert comprised entirely of works by Black Female composers!

I recognize that this is a baby step in the greater fight for justice, but it is something I can do immediately, and forever after this. On Sunday, August 9th at 4 PM CST/3 PM MST, you will hear the works of five Black Female composers, Regina Harris Baiocchi, Brianna Ware, Zenobia Powell Perry, Brittney Boykin, and Valerie Coleman. I am sad that I didn't know these works before, because the music is truly exceptional.

Huge thanks to my collaborators: Shelby Roberts, Claire Davis, Ariel Flach, Amruta Divekar, Ethan Minard, Mallory Graves, and Nicholas Johnson.

It is important to me that when I have control over the program, I play works by all different kinds of people. I perform this concert to amplify Black voices in the clarinet world. Please follow the link below to RSVP for the concert!

From this concert out, I am pledging to perform works on all my future programs by underrepresented composers. I am naming this program Take Two Knees after the initiative of Mr. Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic, calling for musical solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. If not me, then who? If not now, then when?
